What is a Physician Assistant and what can they do for me?

A Physician Assistant (PA) is an advanced practice clinician, and obtains medical histories, performs examinations and procedures, orders treatments, diagnoses illnesses, prescribes medication, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, refers patients to specialists when appropriate and first-assists in surgery. PA's are not to be confused with medical assistants, who perform administrative and clinical tasks in hospitals and clinics under the direct supervision of physicians.

What is MOHS surgery?

MOHS micrographic surgery is a specialized, highly effective technique for the removal of skin cancer performed as an outpatient procedure in the physician's office. It differs from other skin cancer treatments in that it permits the immediate and complete microscopic examination of the removed cancerous tissue, so that all "roots" and extensions of the cancer can be eliminated. Typically, the average surgery time spans 4-5 hours. Due to the methodical manner in which tissue is removed and examined, MOHS surgery has been recognized as the skin cancer treatment with the highest reported cure rate.

Are any of the cosmetic services offered in your office billable to my insurance?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Insurance coverage is limited to medical services only and all payments for cosmetic services are due at the time of service. Acceptable forms of payment include cash or personal check and we do accept credit cards in the form of VISA, MasterCard, or Discover.

How do I know if my insurance will cover my visit?

Even though we may be a provider in your network, we unfortunately cannot provide you with a guarantee of coverage. We highly recommend that you contact your insurance company directly to find out if your visit will be covered. If you know what procedure(s) you will be coming in for, we can provide you with the applicable CPT and ICD-9 codes for your inquiry.

I participate in clinical trials. How do I reach the doctor or study coordinator if I have an emergency after the office is closed?

You can easily contact a research coordinator by dialing our on call study phone at (224) 200-4489. Please leave your name, the trial you are participating in, phone number and detailed message.
