What's Nearby

The village of Arlington Heights began as a town called Dunton in the early 1850s, which contained a stop along the Illinois & Wisconsin Railroad. Originally a farming community, Dunton grew and was eventually incorporated as Arlington Heights in 1887 with a population of approximately 1,000. A later period of population and land growth occurred between 1950 and 1970, with the population reaching 64,884 by 1970.

Today, Arlington Heights is the largest incorporated village in the United States, with a population of 75,101. It is perhaps best known for the Arlington International Racecourse, which opened in 1927 and hosts the Breeders' Cup qualifying event, the Arlington Million.
