Acne is unpleasant whether you are 13, 23, or 33. Finding an acne treatment that works for you is very important. Here are four things you can do to help cure your acne.

  1. Find a cleanser that won’t dry out your skin or make your acne worse. A gentle scrub is a good idea, and if you are using other products designed to treat acne, you might want to skip the “acne scrub” and go with a regular cleanser for sensitive skin. You don’t want to do anything that will further irritate your skin or make it harder for it to heal itself.
  2. Look for an acne treatment that contains either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Both medications can help kill the bacteria on the skin that causes acne. Be sure to talk to your dermatologist about using these medications, and find out which strength is right for your skin and acne.
  3. Make a few lifestyle changes to help cure your acne in conjunction with medication and a good cleansing routine. Keep your hair off your face by pulling your bangs back, and make sure to wash your hair daily to keep the oil in your hair from clogging the pores on your face. Also, be sure to wash your pillowcases and sheets frequently, clean your cell phone, and try to keep your hands off your face—including picking at your acne.
  4. Eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. Give your body the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and to rejuvenate itself by eating fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins, and remember to go easy on refined and processed foods. A multi-vitamin is always a good idea in case your body is deficient in something it needs to be at its best.
