Causes of Lichen Planus
Lichen planus is a common skin rash that affects patients of all ages. This rash can appear anywhere on the body, even in the mouth. Dermatologists are still not entirely certain what causes lichen planus, but theorize that it is an autoimmune disease. Instead of the body seeing the skin as an integral part of its whole, it treats it as a foreign system and attacks it. There are also medicines that can bring about lichen planus, such as diuretics, and dermatologists believe there could also be a link between the rash and the hepatitis C virus. You may also experience lichen planus in the mouth if you have received a metal filling for a cavity.
No matter what the cause may be for your lichen planus, the dermatologists here at Arlington Dermatology can help you regain control over your skin.
