Before, During, and After Juvederm Treatment

Nov 23, 2016

Juvederm® injectables are popular options in cosmetic dermatology because they can drastically improve a patient’s appearance by adding volume to the skin and reducing the look of folds and wrinkles. When you visit your dermatologist for Juvederm treatment, there are a few things that you can expect before, during, and after.

Before

When you see your dermatologist for an initial consultation for Juvederm, she will perform an examination to determine if you are a good candidate for the treatment. She will ask you about what areas of your face you’re concerned about to determine if Juvederm offers you a good solution. This cosmetic injectable is most commonly used to add or restore volume to the cheeks and lips, and to reduce the appearance of parentheses lines, vertical lip wrinkles, and nasolabial folds.

During

Juvederm treatment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. Your dermatologist may numb the site first or use a Juvederm variety that includes a numbing agent in the gel to improve your comfort. This treatment is fast and simple, and patients typically return to their normal activities immediately after their appointment.

After

Following treatment with Juvederm, you can expect to enjoy the benefits of less noticeable wrinkles or fuller lips or cheeks, depending on your individual treatment. Immediately following your appointment, you may experience some mild to moderate side effects, such as bruising, swelling, firmness, tenderness, pain, temporary redness, itching, or bumps at the injection sites. Also, you’ll be advised to avoid consuming alcohol, extended sun exposure, and strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after your appointment. For some patients, their Juvederm results can last a year or longer, and they typically need less of the product when they return for another treatment.
