Refine Your Holiday Skincare Routine

Dec 3, 2019

With all the holiday parties, photo shoots, and family get-togethers around the holidays, your busy schedule may have you feeling more frazzled than usual. Yet these are the events where you want to look your very best! With the right holiday skincare routine, you’ll look and feel fantastic.

Wash Your Face Morning and Night

Not satisfied with using a bar of soap? We don’t blame you! This might be the time of year to up your game by washing your face twice a day with a clay-based facial cleanser. This product is designed to remove impurities and gently exfoliate your skin without drying it out.

Never Sleep With Makeup On

You may get home late from an ugly holiday sweater party, or simply feel exhausted after wrapping a pile of presents, but make sure you never go to bed without washing off your makeup first. After all, the last thing you need is to wake up with a pimple, right?

To make life easy, consider keeping a pack of makeup-removing wipes on your nightstand. This way, even if you’re not up for rinsing with water, you can effectively wipe off your makeup before hitting the sack.

Moisturize Before Putting on Makeup

This is a habit you should uphold all year-round, but it’s especially important during the winter when bitterly cold temperatures and harsh winds want nothing more than to strip your skin of protective oils and vital moisture. For the best results, choose a gentle formula designed for your skin type—normal, oily, or dry. Hyaluronic acid and aloe vera are beneficial natural ingredients to look for on the label.

Keep Wearing Sunscreen

Just because you don’t spend hours at the beach this time of year doesn’t mean your skin is immune to sunburns. You can still get burned, especially if you enjoy outdoor winter activities like skiing and sledding. Make a habit of wearing broad-spectrum 15 SPF or higher sunscreen on your face anytime you spend prolonged periods outside.

Treat Your Under-Eye Area

Dark circles and bags under your eyes are some of the first signs of feeling frazzled and sleep-deprived—common problems during the holiday season. To combat these symptoms, consider using eye cream. A pearl-sized dab twice a day is all you need to minimize the signs of stress and aging around your eyes.

Take a Load Off with a Face Mask

After a particularly hectic work week, treat yourself to a weekend spa-day complete with a relaxing face mask. Apply your product of choice evenly across clean, dry skin and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

Do something relaxing during this time, such as reading a book or resting with cucumber slices over your eyes. Then, rinse the dried mask away with lukewarm water. Finish with your favorite moisturizer, and you’ll be ready to take on another week!
