Frequently Asked Questions

What is a physician assistant and what can they do for me?

A Physician Assistant (PA) is an advanced practice clinician, and obtains medical histories, performs examinations and procedures, orders treatments, diagnoses illnesses, prescribes medication, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, refers patients to specialists when appropriate and first-assists in surgery. PA’s are not to be confused with medical assistants, who perform administrative and clinical tasks in hospitals and clinics under the direct supervision of physicians.

What is MOHS surgery?

MOHS micrographic surgery is a specialized, highly effective technique for the removal of skin cancer performed as an outpatient procedure in the physician’s office. It differs from other skin cancer treatments in that it permits the immediate and complete microscopic examination of the removed cancerous tissue, so that all “roots” and extensions of the cancer can be eliminated. Typically, the average surgery time spans 4-5 hours. Due to the methodical manner in which tissue is removed and examined, MOHS surgery has been recognized as the skin cancer treatment with the highest reported cure rate.

Are any of the cosmetic services offered in your office billable to my insurance?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Insurance coverage is limited to medical services only and all payments for cosmetic services are due at the time of service. Acceptable forms of payment include cash or personal check as well as all major credit cards.

How do I know if my insurance will cover my visit?

Even though we may be a provider in your network, we unfortunately cannot provide you with a guarantee of coverage. We highly recommend that you contact your insurance company directly to find out if your visit will be covered. If you know what procedure(s) you will be coming in for, we can provide you with the applicable CPT and ICD-10 codes for your inquiry.

Prior to your appointment, check your provider’s network status and cost of service.

  • A network provider is a doctor, health care professional, or facility (like a hospital) that has a contract with insurance to provide services or supplies at an agreed upon rate, so you usually pay less when you get services in network.
  • Some plans have a designated or a tiered network of providers. These doctors, health care professionals, facilities, and suppliers provide health care services at the highest benefit level. If you have this type of plan, you may pay less depending on which provider you see.

I participate in clinical trials. How do I reach the doctor or study coordinator if I have an emergency after the office is closed?

You can easily contact our on-call phone at 847-797-4531 after office hours. Please leave your name, the trial you are participating in, phone number and detailed message.
